No Fair Trade

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
2nd Corinthians 5:21 NKJV

There was a time in life when bartering or trading was the main practice for obtaining goods and services without the use of money. However, the goods or services you were willing to exchange had to be a fair trade - equal in value to whatever you were trying to obtain. In the last decade or so, people have started again to barter or trade services. As long as the value of each is properly assessed, it can be a great way to make a trade.

Generally speaking, you wouldn't consider it a fair trade to trade ten pounds of one thing for a single ounce of something else, would you? However, if it was an ounce of gold... See? You must recognize the value of what you're trading.

And so it is in our Christian walk. When we accept Christ as our Saviour, we trade our sin-filled lives to obtain the righteousness of God through His Son. God offers us that which is priceless in exchange for our lives that are totally worthless without Christ. Is that a fair trade? Do we recognize the value of the trade or do we dare grumble and complain about what we "give up" to follow Him and walk in His righteousness?

Think about it.

Prayer:

Father,
We pray as Paul prayed in Philippians 1, that our love will overflow more and more, and that we will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. Help us to understand what really matters, so that we may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return. May we always be filled with the fruit of our salvation—the righteous character produced in our lives by Jesus Christ— so that we will bring much glory and praise to You. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen
