Pleasing God

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
Romans 12:12 ESV

This verse is from one of my favorite passages of Scripture, Romans 12:9-16. In my opinion, those verses are the Cliffs Notes study guide for how to live a Christian life. But this particular verse has struck a chord with me.

To be patient in tribulation. It's not fun, but it is SO necessary. To be steadfast no matter what the world throws at us. It strengthens our faith. It builds our endurance. James tells us to "Count it all joy..."

We must ask ourselves which we want more - fun or faith? Which pleases God? (Hint: Hebrews 11:6) Choose this day whom you will serve... (Joshua 24:15)

Prayer:

Father,
We want to please You above all else. Give us Your Strength to be able to Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

For Good

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
Romans 8:28 NLT

Have you ever questioned the bad stuff, the sad stuff, the tough and so rough stuff that happens in your life? Have you questioned how in the world any of it could work for your good? I know I have and yet...

Now I've lived long enough to know that I would never have known how to be compassionate had I not known pain. I would not know how to be merciful or forgiving had I not desperately needed both. I would not be a giver if I'd never known what it was like to be without. I could not love unconditionally if I had not suffered rejection.

For me, there is comfort in knowing that Jesus lived it, died because of it, then rose again. And like the old song says, "Because He lives, I can face tomorrow..." Whatever comes to my life, good or bad, I know it will work together for my good. He promised it would be so.

Prayer:

Father,
Thank You for Your Word that shines through the dark times. Thank You for a firm foundation where we can stand against the storms of life. Thank You for the Word in the Message that we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good. Help us to remember and to hide and hold Your Truths in our hearts. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen
