Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
Isaiah 9:6-7b NKJV
The Old Testament prophesied the coming of the Christ child. The New Testament connects all the dots of the Old Testament in presenting Christ and fulfilling what God had prepared for us before the foundation of the Earth.
Day 14 of the Advent season, the end of the week for preparation and the prophetic. When I was a child, I loved completing connect-the-dots puzzles that created pictures. Sometimes, I would study intently before ever connecting any dots to see if I could get an idea of what the picture might become. I figured then I would know if I should make straight-line connections or curved connections. I wanted to do it right. However, sometimes I couldn't figure out the picture no matter how I studied or tried to connect it.
That's one of the things I love so much about the Lord. He already knows what the picture of our lives will be because He planned it ahead of time. He's the ultimate in connecting the dots. We don't always know if it's a straight line to our next goal or if there will be curves required, but God, in His great grace, is there guiding our way. With Him, it will always be right. WITH Him, no worries.
Prayer:
Father,
Thank You for the measure of faith that You have given us to be able to trust You in this working out of our salvation; knowing that in You it will turn out right. Thank You for wonderfully weaving the tapestry of our lives before we ever drew breath. Holy Spirit, always guide us away from taking any pride in the accomplishments of our lives, recognizing that we could do nothing if God had not given us the abilities. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen
