“Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.”
Luke 2:10-12
Today, as you read the Christmas story and reflect on Jesus’ birth, marvel at this: God included you in the story. This good news message of Jesus Christ, heralded by angels and declared to shepherds, was also delivered to you.
This declaration is an invitation that rings out and includes you. Today, do not fear for God has given you good news of great joy! We all share in this. The good news of Jesus means peace, wholeness, security, and friendship. The invitation means freedom, hope, and love. Jesus offers a life full of meaning. This Christmas, would you accept the invitation to walk in the joy that only Jesus can bring?
This same Jesus Christ, born of a virgin, is our Lord and King. We pray you will experience the joy of an everyday relationship with him. And as you celebrate Christmas with family and friends, we pray this song will rise in your heart:
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
Luke 2:14
Reflect: Read Psalm 105:1-4, Psalm 68:3-5
What does it mean that this declaration was also an invitation?
What does it mean for Jesus to be king of your heart?
How do you cultivate an everyday relationship with Jesus?
***********************************************************************
Prayer:
Father,
Thank You for the ultimate Gift of Your Son as our Savior. Open our eyes of understanding to all that means for our lives and our eternity. According to Your Word, we give thanks and proclaim Your greatness! Thank You for including us! We will sing Your praises and tell everyone of all You have done. We rejoice as we worship only You. Lord, we search for You and for Your strength. We want to be found in You as we continually seek Your face and await Your Second Coming. Even so, come quickly. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

Advent Day 24 - The Longing for Home
This year's Advent devotionals are from A Celebration of Advent:
A 25-Day Devotional by New Spring Church of Anderson, SC
Reflect: Read Hebrews 1:1-8, Galatians 4:1-7
What does “home” mean for a follower of Jesus?
How does God comfort us when we miss people or places at Christmas?
How does the presence of God fill our deepest desires for home?

[Jesus speaking] “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?"
John 14:1-2 NIV
We’re all moved to see a soldier come home and scoop up their son or daughter. Witnessing those moments pulls on our heartstrings because engrained deep in all of us is a longing for home. When we gather with friends and family, we get a taste of the homecoming that awaits us in eternity.
The holidays tap into a deep longing to be at home with God. Jesus knows what it means to be homesick. He spent 33 years separated from His Father on a long-term mission to reconcile humanity to God. When Jesus’ work was done, He “sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high” (Hebrews 1:3). God the Father and God the Son reunited. Because we are sons and daughters of God, one day we [too] will go home to God’s eternal presence.
The day is coming when we’ll see God face to face. Our longing for home will be complete. Until then, we wait in hope. Galatians 4:4-6 tells us, “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. You can tell for sure that you are now fully adopted as his own children because God sent the Spirit of his Son into our lives crying out, ‘Papa! Father!’” Through God’s Spirit, we can speak to God, hear from God, and feel His presence while we wait for home.

Father,
On Earth, we have all experienced being homesick in one form or another, and, as You know, sometimes it can feel overwhelming. Yet Your Word tells us that Jesus has faced and felt every one of our emotions. It is a great comfort to know that You are touched by our feelings, You were tempted just as we are, and yet You overcame without sinning. In You is our Hope. In You is our true Home. In You is the fulfillment for every longing we've ever experienced. Help us to hold onto this Truth, Father. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

Advent Day 20 - Run with the Good News

“How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, ‘Your God reigns.’”
Isaiah 52:7
If you’ve ever seen a runner’s feet you know the beauty Isaiah describes isn’t in the feet themselves but in what they represent.
In Isaiah’s day, people waited impatiently at home for any news from a battle. Messengers ran from the front lines to inform the city. From a distance, watchmen could determine if a messenger ran with good news or bad news based on their posture and speed. When the messenger delivered the good news, everyone celebrated.
Isaiah says the LORD Himself brings good news of victory! We, too, can be good news messengers or evangelists declaring Jesus’ victory (Romans 10:13). Because Jesus won the victory over sin and death, those of us who have been saved and set free can share the message of victory to the world: “Salvation is here!”
There is no better time than now - during the celebration of His birth - to share with friends and family the victory and the hope Jesus brings.
Reflect: Read Isaiah 52:7-10, Romans 10:8-15
What makes the Gospel good news for you?
Are there people you know who need to hear the good news of Jesus? Ask the Lord for the opportunity to share it with them.

Advent Day 18 - I Can Give My Heart to Him
This year's Advent devotionals are from A Celebration of Advent:
A 25-Day Devotional by New Spring Church of Anderson, SC
***********************************************************************
“And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.”
Matthew 2:11
Jesus was probably one or two years old when the wise men arrived. Though Jesus was unable to do anything for them, they were overjoyed to see Him and showered Him with gifts fit for royalty. The wise men celebrated Jesus purely for who He is— a miracle child and promised king. Jesus had yet to heal a single person or preach a single message.
God is pleased when we acknowledge the good things He does for us. But suppose God never does another thing for us? He would still be worthy of worship.
Romans 12:1 tells us, “True and proper worship is to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God.” Worship is a life lived for the Lord. Worship is willingly surrendering to God’s plan for our lives every day. When we do, we give Jesus the greatest gift of all — a heart devoted to Him alone...
Of course, we are thankful for all that He has done and will do for us. But for today, let’s give our hearts fully to Jesus and follow the lead of the wise men who praised Jesus simply for who He is— the King of kings.
Reflect: Read Matthew 2:1-12
What happens in your heart and mind when you praise God for who He is versus praising God for His provision?
What do you love about Jesus? Tell Him.
***********************************************************************
Prayer:
Father,
All You ever want from us is our heart - our whole heart - but we always try to hold some of it back. Forgive us for all the times we try to do this life on our terms instead of Yours. Forgive our selfishness, our 'mine mine mine' attitude, and break through the part of us that always wants to hold onto a part of self... the very part that keeps us separated from You. Help us to understand the deepest part of Your love. We want to love You simply and best just for who You are. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

Advent Day 16 - Who is Jesus?
This year's Advent devotionals are from A Celebration of Advent:
A 25-Day Devotional by New Spring Church of Anderson, SC
***********************************************************************
“He took him up in his arms and blessed God and said, ‘Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.’”
Luke 2:28-32
Christmas presses us all to answer the most important question: Who is Jesus?
In Luke 2, the Holy Spirit leads a righteous and devout man named Simeon to the temple on the day of Jesus’ circumcision. Simeon praises God for allowing him to see the promised Messiah, then says to Mary, “....This child marks both the failure and the recovery of many in Israel, A figure misunderstood and contradicted— the pain of a sword-thrust through you— But the rejection will force honesty, as God reveals who they really are” Luke 2:33-35 The Message
Simeon prophesies that Jesus will be “a figure misunderstood and contradicted.” Is Jesus misunderstood or is He Messiah? Is Jesus only a reason to decorate, gather friends, and feast? Or, do we acknowledge Him as Savior of the world, Immanuel, Prince of Peace?
When we see Jesus as Savior, our perspective on Christmas changes. Buying presents becomes a reminder of God’s blessing instead of a burden. Gatherings go from obligations to opportunities to celebrate and reflect the gift of Jesus. When Jesus is at the center, every Christmas moment becomes an act of worship.
Reflect: Read Luke 2:21-35
In Mark 8:29, Jesus asks Peter, "Who do you say I am?" How would you answer Jesus’ question? Who do you say He is?
What is one way you can put Jesus at the center of your day today?
***********************************************************************
Prayer:
Father,
Thank You for the gift of Your Son to us and for us - our Messiah, Immanuel, Prince of Peace, our Savior. Help us to see those around us through Your eyes of love. As we make room in our hearts for You, fill us with Your compassion to see the needs of others and the desire to help meet those needs. Teach us to look beyond ourselves, Father, always. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

Advent Day 13 - Is God Really with Me?
This year's Advent devotionals are from A Celebration of Advent:
A 25-Day Devotional by New Spring Church of Anderson, SC
***********************************************************************
“... the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
Isaiah 7:14
This time of year, reminders of Jesus’ birth are everywhere— in Christmas carols, church nativities, and family traditions. But how many of us woke up today with the confidence that God is with us?
Jesus is called “Immanuel” because He is "God with us." It’s one thing to know God is with us; it’s another to experience this truth in our everyday [life]. Jesus promised to never leave us.
God is with us— we can never be separated from His love (Romans 8:38-39).
God is with us— we can accomplish His will for us (Philippians 2:13).
God is with us— we don’t have to live with fear, worry, or dissatisfaction (Philippians 4:4-7).
God is with you when you’re facing the heartache of Christmas without a family. God is with you when you’re fretting over the details of the holidays. And when you’re experiencing the joys of this holiday season, God is with you there, too. This Christmas, let God’s promise lead you to love more fully, give more generously, and live more confidently. He is Immanuel.
Reflect: Read Isaiah 7:10-14, Matthew 1:23
When is it easy to believe that God is with you?
When do you struggle to believe that’s true?
What do you think would change if you sensed God is with you?
***********************************************************************
Prayer:
Father,
Forgive us for putting conditions on our faith and on Your love. Forgive us for letting situational circumstances determine whether or not we believe You are always with us. You promised to never leave us or forsake us. Increase our faith, O God. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

Advent Day 5 - We’re Called to Prepare

“And all these things were talked about through all the hill country of Judea, and all who heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, ‘What then will this child be?’ For the hand of the Lord was with him.”
Luke 1:65-66
When a party starts and we hear all the laughing and singing, we realize that the planning, shopping, cleaning, and arranging were all worth it. John the Baptist’s role was not the most glamorous, but God gave him the special purpose of preparing the way for the Messiah. Filled with the Holy Spirit, John preached repentance and spoke boldly to prepare people’s hearts to receive the soon-coming king.
When we take time to prepare our hearts, Christmas goes from just another stressful event to the most beautiful celebration of God’s saving work. During Advent, we slow down, fix our eyes on Jesus, consider His incarnation, and look forward to His return. May this Christmas be different as we prepare our hearts to celebrate the arrival of King Jesus.
REFLECT: Read Luke 1:57-80, Malachi 3:1-4
How can we prepare our hearts to experience the most from this Christmas season?
How are the daily practices of prayer and bible reading helping to prepare your heart for what Jesus wants to do through you?
*************************************************************************
Prayer:
Father,
We come with grateful hearts for You have so lovingly and faithfully prepared the way for us to receive forgiveness and be restored to right standing with You. Forgive us for living our lives as though we could just wing our way through - without studying to show ourselves approved. Without preparing our hearts to receive Your Word. Without preparing our souls to receive the Salvation You so lovingly prepared for us from the beginning. Forgive us, Father, in Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

What are Your Plans?
Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son.
Ephesians 1:4-6 The MessageAs we enter into the Christmas season this year, almost everyone has plans of some kind. Plans to shop for gifts for family or friends. Maybe you have plans for friends' parties or the office get-together. Or maybe you're one who just plans to hide out till it's all over.
Maybe you had plans for this year that didn't work out and you haven't reconciled with it. Maybe you suffered the worst - the death of a loved one that no one can plan for. (((💔))) I'm so sorry...
We can plan and save and work but sometimes, it seems our plans are all for naught. Things don't turn out the way we planned them. Listen, I want to encourage you. Don't quit. Don't give up. God's been planning our lives since "long before he laid down earth's foundations... Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son."
God DOES have a plan for each of us. Sometimes, it's very difficult to see. However, if we will work WITH Him instead of against Him, it will work...even if we didn't plan it that way.
Prayer:
Father,
We don't always understand. It's hard for us to walk out the living Word of 'Your ways and thoughts are so much higher than ours'. We choose to trust You. We choose Your Son, Your will, Your way over everything the world has to offer. Increase our faith, God. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

Advent - Day Twenty-one
From 21 Gifts of Advent by Janelle Keith
Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.
Colossians 3:14 NLT
The Gift of Love
The gift of God’s love heals our brokenness and strengthens us. Our lives are transformed whenever we meet our Healer face to face. When we gather together with Jesus, we can lay our burdens at Hope's feet. In the place of intimacy with God, we are transformed by grace. Christ's pure love brings hope and healing.
We celebrate, we worship, and we adore Jesus in the long-awaited season of Advent and Christmas. It’s not about the gifts, but it IS about the ultimate gift of Love we were given by God. And gifts were meant to be opened. God wants to love His children, and we must open our hearts and minds to the Lord for more of Love.
“God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.” Ephesians 1:22-23 (NLT)
This verse encourages me greatly, especially at this time of year. It’s been documented that most unbelievers will go to church at least one time per year. Christmas services are the number one choice for attending! Begin to pray now for whom you want to invite. Pray about how they will receive the message of Love and that they’ll be received with love by those within the church.
Our mission is to lead people to become fully devoted followers of Christ. That includes you, too, as you read these words. We are invited by the love of God to join Jesus as Kingdom builders, and to share our faith.
Advent reflection: When our identity is based on our relationship in Christ, we can run the faith race empowered by the Holy Spirit. We can know our purpose in loving like Christ loved. Looking to the New Year, we have everything we need to be world changers. Let’s impact the world and our communities for Christ. We can lead like Jesus, with the love that we know from our Heavenly Father. We choose to love others well all the way HOME! What a gift God’s love is! It’s time to celebrate Love!
Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.

*********************
Prayer:
Father,
Thank You for Your endless love! As we celebrate Your greatest Gift, help us to keep foremost in our hearts and minds that it was and is Your love that birthed the plan of salvation for us. Open our eyes to see all the opportunities to share Your love and Your plan of salvation to those around us. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

Advent - Day Three
For Advent this year, we are reading A Weary World Rejoices written by Brittany Rust
**************************************************************
But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel, whose origins are in the distant past, will come from you on my behalf. The people of Israel will be abandoned to their enemies until the woman in labor gives birth. Then at last his fellow countrymen will return from exile to their own land.
And he will stand to lead his flock with the Lord’s strength, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. Then his people will live there undisturbed, for he will be highly honored around the world.
Micah 5:2-4 NLT
Jesus has always been there; long before the earth was formed. He is from everlasting to everlasting. And while He is eternal, there was a time people waited for His coming on the earth. Micah 5 gives us a glimpse into His arrival—He would be born in Bethlehem.
We are reminded that under His authority and lordship, there is peace and joy. Our Jesus is a good shepherd who takes wonderful, loving care of His flock. Rest in that knowledge today; you are cared for by the Savior.

Father,
Thank You for giving us the best Shepherd to watch over us, One we can trust to lead us safely through life. Thank You for protection from those who would seek to harm us, for healing us when we are wounded, for setting us free when we've gotten ourselves trapped, and for rescuing us when we are lost. Thank You for peace that passes understanding and for joy. In this holiday season especially, help us to stay focused on You and who You are. Help us to help others see their greatest hope is in You. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

Getting Prepared
So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world.
1st Peter 1:13 NLT
1st Peter 1:13 NLT
People are now in full swing, trying to get ready for Christmas. Decorating the tree, shopping for gifts, last-minute home preparations for any guests who may be coming to visit. We want it to be perfect... whatever that is in our minds. And we don't know how we're going to get it all done.
Let me help you.
The perfect Gift has already been given, the perfect tree lifted Him high, making it possible to cleanse our hearts to be His home - to be fit for Jesus to come live in us (Ephesians 3:17).
The MOST important thing to remember about Christmas is the advent of Christ - the time of preparation marking the celebration of Jesus' birth over 2,000 years ago, and also for the preparation of His second coming. Are you getting prepared?
Prayer:
Father,
We pray Ephesians 3:20-21, Now all glory to You, God, who is able, through Your mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to You in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen.

The Real Treasure
Sell what you have and give to those in need. This will fatten your purses in heaven! And the purses of heaven have no rips or holes in them. Your treasures there will never disappear; no thief can steal them; no moth can destroy them. Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts will also be.
Luke 12:33-34 TLB
During the Christmas season, there are so many different emotions flying on a collision course with the world around us. Some people are like children, they can hardly wait and stars are in their eyes and they break into song at the drop of a hat or the jingle of a bell. Others are so sad, remembering the family member or friend who did not live out the year and they break into tears without warning. Still others are angry and frustrated with the stress of trying to buy something for everyone on their list while wondering how they're going to pay for that AND the house bills.
Let me encourage you to take a step back and just breathe in - big breath - and breathe out. Again. Breathe in, breathe out.
Have we lost sight? Perspective? For God so loved the world that He gave... (John 3:16). Jesus loved us so much that He came to earth (Luke 2) so He could lay down His life for us (John 10). Why?!? Because God loved us - we are His treasure - He came to Earth because that's where we are.
Where's your heart? What are your thoughts? Where will your heart and thoughts lead you? Are you selling your inheritance for worldly instant gratification or will you hold fast to the greatest treasure ever given to mankind?
Prayer:
Father,
Open the eyes of our hearts - we want to see You. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

Non-Threatening
And the angel said unto them, "Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger."
Luke 2:10-12 KJV
Do you ever wonder why God chose to come as a baby to save the world? I don't have any great revelation on it, but when I think of all a new baby represents in my world, I am definitely in awe. There is something so pure, so new beginning, so apolitical.

Do you ever wonder why God chose to come as a baby to save the world? I don't have any great revelation on it, but when I think of all a new baby represents in my world, I am definitely in awe. There is something so pure, so new beginning, so apolitical.
There are so many emotions that surround the birth of a child. Awe and wonder. Hope. Fear. Dreams. The promise of continuity. The uncertainty of the unknown. Joy unspeakable. Everyone reacts differently but no one is intimidated by the physical stature of an infant (unless maybe it's their baby and they're not sure of their ability to care and raise for it). Babies are defenseless. Non-threatening.
Don't misunderstand. Jesus is very much the Lord of all lords. Every bit the Messiah. The Son of El Shaddai. King of the world. And He was all that before He was ever born! Do you suppose He came as a baby so we could feel the promise of all that He represented - all that was spoken of Him before He was born - all so that we could receive Him and not be afraid?
Prayer:
Father,
Thank You for such an incredible expression of Your love for us. Open our eyes to see, our ears to hear, our minds to understand, and our hearts to receive and embrace this precious gift of salvation that You have given us. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

Worth the Repeat - Are You Ready?

I think oftentimes we get caught up in the holiday and all the honey-do lists and gifts, etc, and forget why we celebrate and what we should be looking for. That's very dangerous. Matthew 24:44 NIV tells us, So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. Are you ready?

Adoration
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
Deuteronomy 6:4-7 NKJV
Come, let us worship and bow down, Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.
Psalm 95:6 NKJV
Prayer:
Father,
Forgive us for being complacent in our worship toward You. Help us to bring down the walls we have erected that separate us from You. We want to worship You in Spirit and in Truth, according to Your Word. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

Week 4 of Advent. Love and adoration. And perfectly set to music by one of the most popular Christmas carols. In English, it is titled, "O Come All Ye Faithful" or in Latin, "Adeste Fideles", and while its origin may be debatable, its message is not.
O Come! Let us adore Him! O Come! Let us adore Him! O Come! Let us adore Him - Christ the Lord! What does it mean to adore in this sense? It is a call to worship; venerate; to reverence, honor. In this day and age, this notion may be lost on those who have never dealt with royalty. However, it would behoove us to obtain a better understanding of what it truly means. It's NOT just another Christmas song to be sung by rote. O that we would choose to awaken our hearts and minds to love the Lord our God wholly, completely, with all that is in us!
Prayer:
Father,
Forgive us for being complacent in our worship toward You. Help us to bring down the walls we have erected that separate us from You. We want to worship You in Spirit and in Truth, according to Your Word. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

Long Before
It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. God chose him as your ransom long before the world began, but now in these last days he has been revealed for your sake.
1st Peter 1:19-20 NLT
Christmas Eve... almost Christmas morning. On Christmas Eve eve, I listened as Amelia, one of my teenaged granddaughters, talked about the anticipation of Christmas morning and how hard it was/is to sleep. As "grownup" as she has become (she graduated from high school six months ago), I saw again the little girl in her who tried hard to be obedient and go to bed on Christmas Eve. I remembered her impassioned plea as a child, "Granna, how am I supposed to sleep?!?" And all the while, her parents needing the children to be asleep to finish their tasks for Christmas morning...
As I listened to Amelia on Sunday, I thought of Christ's words in Matthew 18 about becoming like little children... the anticipation, the adoration, the exuberance, the love; instead of adults who are caught up in the cares of the world and what we think must be done...
Oh, that we would be anticipating the coming of Christ like children anticipating Christmas morning! When we are celebrating the greatest gift ever! Chosen to be given to us long before the world began...
Prayer:
Father,
I know that people the world over debate about Christmas. Forgive us for our finite thinking of what day or what season based on what calendar so much so that we lose sight of the Truth. The Truth that You did send Your Son to this world so through Him we might be saved. Thank You, Father. Thank You that long before we were ever born You loved us enough to send Jesus as our Christ, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. We pray Your will, Father, that all should come to repentance and that none perish. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

Time
How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.
James 4:14
Two days till Christmas. How busy are you? How much do you still have left to be done to be ready for the big day? Which will you run out of first - money or time? 😊 What is your priority?
I was convicted this morning (thank You, Holy Spirit!) that my priorities are out of order. I'm making time for guests and gadding about for shopping tasks, etc, but not making the time for that which should be the most important - time alone with God. All this hustle and bustle and time consumption on other things, when I have no guarantee that I will be here tonight, let alone two days from now.
What is your answer to the ages-old question, "How would you spend today if you knew it was your last day on Earth?"
Prayer:
Father,
Thank You for the gift of life and for those You have placed in my life to love and cherish in my time here. Forgive me for squandering the precious gift of time You have given me. Forgive me for putting anything before You. Change my heart, Father. Give me the courage and strength to persevere. In Jesus' Name I pray. Amen

Giving Gifts
A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.
Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.
1st Corinthians 12:7 NLT
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
1st Peter 4:10 NIV
At this time of year, we often spend lots of time, energy and resources trying to find just the right gift for our loved ones. It's a great delight for some and a study in frustration for others. Delight has to do with our perspective of the holiday and our love for others; frustration has much to do with how we perceive ourselves as gift finders and probably even more to do with how we think we'll be perceived by those to whom we give gifts.
Step away from all of that for a moment, and let's focus on the best gifts - those we have received from God. The first and best is Jesus Christ, our salvation. Following that is each other - Romans 12:5 tells us ...so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. So, you're a gift to me and vice versa. Rounding it off are the gifts we've been given to share in serving and helping each other.
Paul tells us in Romans 12, In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.
Oh, that we would be the bearer of gifts that keep on giving what God intended to give!
Prayer:
Father,
When Your people are in need, give us eyes to see and hearts that will be ready to help them. Let us always be eager to practice hospitality. Help us to bless those who persecute us. Lord, teach us to be happy with those who are happy, and to weep with those who weep. Help us to live in harmony with each other, and to do all that we can to live in peace with everyone. And to use the gifts You have given us to help and serve others. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

Christmas Day
"The Redeemer will come to Jerusalem to buy back those in Israel who have turned from their sins,”
says the Lord.
"And this is my covenant with them,” says the Lord. “My Spirit will not leave them, and neither will these words I have given you. They will be on your lips and on the lips of your children and your children’s children forever. I, the Lord, have spoken!"
says the Lord.
"And this is my covenant with them,” says the Lord. “My Spirit will not leave them, and neither will these words I have given you. They will be on your lips and on the lips of your children and your children’s children forever. I, the Lord, have spoken!"
Isaiah 59:20-21 NLT
It's been a great Christmas Day. It's a time to celebrate the birth on earth of Christ our Redeemer. I have seen my children and my grandchildren and that is always a great time.
It's been a great Christmas Day. It's a time to celebrate the birth on earth of Christ our Redeemer. I have seen my children and my grandchildren and that is always a great time.
Even while all are not exhibiting outward signs of following Christ, I trust His Word. And His Word tells us that He works on the heart. That is what I have been witness to this weekend. This is what I know to be Truth. His Word is the one constant that I can count on no matter what I see, hear, or feel.
For years I have held on to God's Promises in Isaiah 54 - and especially verse 13, All your children shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the peace of your children. Taught by Him. I can already see it coming to fruition, so I have no doubt that His words will be on the lips of my children and my grandchildren forever. And I am rejoicing to see the day!
Prayer:
Father,
Thank You for giving us Your Word to live by. It truly is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. Thank You for giving us a standard of Truth that does not waiver or change, and yet is alive and powerful. Thank You for the many blessings You have given us and the provision You have made. In the words of the carol, Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay. Close by me forever and love me I pray. Bless all the dear children with Thy tender care and take us to Heaven to live with Thee there. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen
