It's Only the 3rd...

Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.
Hebrews 10:24 NLT

I'm not going to mention resolutions for anyone else - successes or failures. My personal opinion is that the only resolution I need to make is to follow Christ more closely. To do that, I must be in His Word, spend time in His presence, emulate His acts of love and good works.

In John 14:12 NLT, Jesus declares, I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. What a promise! What a divine aspiration for us as Christians!

Verse 25 of our text for today instructs us - And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

Do we realize that an act of love is as simple as picking up the phone to call a friend and check on them, perhaps pray with them over the phone? Taking the time to drop a card or note in the mail? But when we think of all that Jesus did (and does and will do), are we motivated to do good works? He said we would do even greater works... Are we?

It's only the third day of a brand new year - I've talked to friends who have lost family members in the last week - one on New Year's Day. I spoke with several friends today who are battling illnesses, and two others with Covid. We MUST love others as Jesus loves. They NEED it!

Prayer:

Father,
Soften our hearts - pour in a fresh anointing of compassion for others. Give us the wisdom to know when to speak, what to speak, and when to just be quiet and listen - to be in the moment with them. Holy Spirit, motivate us to acts of love and good works beyond our own understanding. We want to be the hands and feet of Jesus extended to the hurting world around us. Open our eyes to see, open our hearts to hear. Help us to help others. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen
