No Apology Necessary

Those who control their tongue will have a long life; opening your mouth can ruin everything.
Proverbs 13:3 NLT

Have you ever mouthed off in anger and immediately wished you hadn't? Then you have to apologize and ask forgiveness. There's a lot to be said for self-control. However, the world today is all about expressing one's own opinions, propagated by Facebook and Twitter, etc, seemingly with no self-control. More and more, I see hateful words with no regard as to who they might hurt.

There are many Scriptures about holding our tongue, watching our words, and preferring one another. One that brings deep conviction is Matthew 12:36, And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. Every idle word...

A wise man once said, "You will never have to apologize for what you did NOT say." The choice is ours.

How can we encourage a bumper crop of the fruits of the Holy Spirit? Stay in the Word. Strive to stay in the presence of the Lord. The Bible tells us if we walk in the Spirit, we will not fulfill the lusts - the evil actions - of the flesh.

Prayer:

Father,
Help us to put a guard over our mouths. Help us to choose our words carefully so we don't have to apologize for what we've said. Forgive us, O God, for every idle word. Help us to live according to Ephesians 4:29, Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen
