What Matters

For in Christ, neither our most conscientious religion nor disregard of religion amounts to anything. What matters is something far more interior: faith expressed in love.
Galatians 5:6 The Message

What does it mean to express our faith in love? To me, it is the full expression of our professed Christianity. Think about this. What were you like before coming to Christ? Were you charitable? Compassionate? Selfless? Did you think of others' needs before your own AND attempt to meet those needs? Did you look outside your four walls? Were you able to see and discern through God's eyes? Did you even want to?

Faith makes us look outside ourselves and see others. Faith in a God who loved us enough to send His only Son to pay the ultimate price for our own rebellious hearts causes us to want to be like Him, to help a lost and dying world. Faith expressed in love...

We can reach great heights of success in the world's view, but if we don't have love, it's worthless. 1st Corinthians 13:2 NLT tells us, If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. What does any of it matter without faith expressed in love?

Prayer:

Father,
Open our eyes to love. Increase our faith and thereby, our love. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen
