All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.
1st Peter 1:3-4 NLT
I remember years ago when the Enron debacle was all over the headlines, made all the more real to me because there were people in my personal sphere who were financially devastated by it. People within months or just a few years of retiring - who lost it all and had not enough years left to recover. They were literally starting from scratch...in their sixties. Instead of looking forward to retirement, they were praying for health, strength, and the opportunity to be able to continue working so their spouses would have a place to live and food to eat.
Why did that happen? Because the lust of the flesh (greed) brought change and decay to the hearts of those to whom they had entrusted their life's savings. I will never forget the lifelessness in the eyes of those who were hopeless because their retirement fund was what they'd worked for their whole lives... and they did not know the Lord.
As much as I hate to admit it, I have lost everything I owned before, but God spared my life and the lives of those I love most. The cash-in value of my life insurance is immeasurable - I have the same insurance carrier as a former Christian comedian - "...a guaranteed policy with Jesus Christ Mutual Life." And I live with great expectation because I have a priceless inheritance - an inheritance that is kept in heaven for me, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.
Prayer:
Father,
Your provision for our every need is mind-boggling! Thank You for being trustworthy and faithful. Open our eyes to recognize Your Truth around us. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen
