They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.
1st Thessalonians 1:9b-10 NIV
Generally, you won't find me in a line for a restaurant that's going to be more than a 15-minute wait. A pet peeve for me is waiting over an hour in a doctor's office when there was no emergency; just bad scheduling. The same doctor's office that will cancel your appointment for the day if you're ten minutes late because there was a major traffic accident on the highway. No, I really don't like to wait. Not at all.
However, I find that it depends on what I'm waiting for. There are different kinds of waiting; some can be good! For instance, waiting for a baby to be born. Waiting for a plane to arrive that's bringing someone you love. Waiting for the cookies to finish baking. 😄 Waiting for Jesus to come again.
Although it can seem interminably long, remember that Peter tells us, A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent (2nd Peter 3:9).
And we are not to wait as though we are long-suffering for His return. Anamenein is the Greek word for wait in 1st Thessalonians. It refers to expectant waiting; sustained, patient, trusting. That's how we are to wait for the Lord... Expectant. Patient. Trusting.
No matter what we're waiting for now - whether it's healing or test results or His second coming - we can trust God in it.
Prayer:
Father,
Thank You for opening Your Word to our understanding. Thank You for helping us to adjust our perspective to Yours. It's a much better view of life. Continue to shine the light of Your Truth on our pathway. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen
