Doing the Two-Step

People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy.
Proverbs 28:13 NLT

In Texas, you grow up doing the Texas Two-Step. It loosely resembles a Foxtrot, but folks on both sides of that coin might want to argue about the similarity. Sometimes there's a little side-step thrown in for good measure, depending on what part of Texas you're from. The point is, it's a two-step. It's not the real thing without both steps. You're probably wondering what any of this has to do with our Promise for Today...

Most of us are familiar with 1st John 1:9, If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We may not be as familiar with Proverbs 28:13. When I read this Scripture, I was struck by the process to receive mercy. It says we must confess our sins AND turn from them. It's a two-step. There's no side-stepping it - no matter where you're from. We don't receive mercy without doing two steps - confess and turn.

Prayer:

Father,
Help us to recognize and walk in each and every step You have laid before us. We don't want to do any side-stepping. We want only to follow in Your footsteps. Guide us, Father. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen
