* A New Start

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22-23 NKJV

New Year's Day. The start of a brand new year - most of us are full of hope to have a good one. Many are glad to be leaving the old one behind. I don't know anyone who doesn't love to have a clean slate, with all the endless possibilities of good that could happen.

Our heavenly Father is known as the Ancient of Days, where a day with the Lord is as a thousand years and a thousand years as a day (2nd Peter 3:8). Yet, in His lovingkindness, He knew in our flesh, we would need boundaries of time. Times of hope for times of change. How many of us have said, "Next week..." or "Next month..." or "Next year..." with the promise of possibility for what it could hold?

Last year was a tough year. I remember crying out to God, "I can't do this for the rest of my life!" And His response to my heart's cry was, "Can you do it for today? Just for today."

So, today, on this first day of a new year, I am so grateful to be reminded in His Word that we get to start new every morning. We don't have to wait. EACH day is new when we choose to follow the Lord.

Prayer:

Father,
          We are so grateful that through Your mercies we are not consumed and Your love never fails us. Help us to walk mindful of the great gift of Your faithfulness. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen
