Promise for Today Favorite - In His Presence

Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 5:18b-20 NIV

It's been said that he who sings, prays twice. Some might disagree, but all I know is the Word says, "Come before His presence with singing" (Psalm 100:2 NKJV), and when I praise Him in song - "singing and making music from my heart to the Lord" - I get there. And when I do, my focus is totally on Him and as the old song says, ♪♫ "and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace"♪♫

You might be like me; sometimes my praise pump needs a little priming. You can't just listen your way into His presence. You have to be an active participant. So, I go to YouTube and pick a song I like and sing along. Old songs. New songs. Harmony. Unison. It's all there and God loves all of it. And it just takes off from there.

All the cares and stresses of the day and of life lose their grip on my soul. Pain is eclipsed by the warmth of God's love. I am rejuvenated because in His presence is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11), and His Word reaffirms that the joy of the Lord is my strength (Nehemiah 8:10).

What do you need? Whatever it is, you will find it in His presence. Get there! Go now. What are you waiting for? He will meet you there. He's waiting for you.

Prayer:

Father,
          We will enter Your gates with thanksgiving and Your courts with praise; we will give thanks to You and praise Your Name. For You, Lord, are good and Your love endures forever; Your faithfulness continues through all generations. Father, show us the path of life. We want to be at Your right hand forevermore. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

Into His Presence

On your feet now—applaud God! Bring a gift of laughter, sing yourselves into his presence.
Psalm 100:1-2 The Message

Today, I attended a Homegoing Celebration for Diane Marquis. For as long as I'd known her, she was intensely passionate about pointing people to Jesus, at every opportunity and in every situation. Diane had such a heart for the lost and downtrodden! One time, she disguised herself as a homeless person, unkempt AND unwashed, then entered her church on a Sunday morning to see how the people would react. She was very happy to report afterward that they passed the love test with flying colors!

Diane was demonstrative in her love for the Lord. I don't know quite how to explain it, but she seemed to be perpetually in His presence. I remember one time during deep worship, watching her literally go to her knees before the Lord. She was in her late seventies and I wondered how she was going to get back up.  The point is I don't think it ever crossed HER mind to wonder how she was going to get back up. Her only conscious thought was to bow before the King of kings and worship at the feet of Jesus. That's who she was... What a legacy!

Prayer:

Father,
          Comfort Diane's family as only You can. Help us to let our life light so shine to those around us that they may recognize You and glorify You! We pray according to Your Word in the Psalms, Teach us Your ways, O Lord, that we may live according to Your truth! Grant us purity of heart, so that we may honor You. With all our hearts, we will praise You, O Lord our God. We will give glory to Your Name forever, for Your love for us is very great. You have rescued us from the depths of death. Create in us a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within us. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

Separated

You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Psalm 16:11 ESV

The darkness of man is because of the absence of God's light. The darkness of the soul is because something has separated it from being in God's presence. Sometimes, we're in a dry place. We wonder how we ever got so far away... Have you ever been there? The real question is, How do we get into or BACK into His presence? Psalm 100...

Serve the Lord with gladness;
Come before His presence with singing.

The Bible also tells us that God sings over us (Zephaniah 3:17). When was the last time you sang a love song back to Him?

Know that the Lord, He is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Oftentimes, that's how we get separated. We think we've made ourselves a success. We think we own the talents God bestowed on us when we were being formed in our mother's womb. Let us acknowledge His - God's - marvelous works!

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.

How many times is it written, Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good...?

For the Lord is good;
His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations.

Prayer:

Father,
         Forgive us for foolishly thinking we can do life on our own. We cannot do anything apart from You. We acknowledge and thank You for all the provision You have made, are making and will make throughout our lifetime as we walk with You. And we will go on thanking and praising You, giving all glory and honor unto You, O God. Keep our hearts and minds and eyes tuned to You, Father. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen
