Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 5:18b-20 NIV
It's been said that he who sings, prays twice. Some might disagree, but all I know is the Word says, "Come before His presence with singing" (Psalm 100:2 NKJV), and when I praise Him in song - "singing and making music from my heart to the Lord" - I get there. And when I do, my focus is totally on Him and as the old song says, ♪♫ "and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace"♪♫
You might be like me; sometimes my praise pump needs a little priming. You can't just listen your way into His presence. You have to be an active participant. So, I go to YouTube and pick a song I like and sing along. Old songs. New songs. Harmony. Unison. It's all there and God loves all of it. And it just takes off from there.
All the cares and stresses of the day and of life lose their grip on my soul. Pain is eclipsed by the warmth of God's love. I am rejuvenated because in His presence is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11), and His Word reaffirms that the joy of the Lord is my strength (Nehemiah 8:10).
What do you need? Whatever it is, you will find it in His presence. Get there! Go now. What are you waiting for? He will meet you there. He's waiting for you.
Prayer:
Father,
We will enter Your gates with thanksgiving and Your courts with praise; we will give thanks to You and praise Your Name. For You, Lord, are good and Your love endures forever; Your faithfulness continues through all generations. Father, show us the path of life. We want to be at Your right hand forevermore. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

Reminder - Everything I've Got
Hallelujah! I give thanks to God with everything I've got—
Psalm 111:1a&b The Message Bible
Have you ever noticed how easy it is to complain? There is a real propensity to only see the down side of things. We are bombarded by today's media with so-called reality shows - sensationalizing the ugly side of people... not ugly opposite of good-looking. Ugly as in mean and hateful. And then there are the other shows and news programs that prey on people's fears. If we're not careful, we get tunnel vision and all we see is bad. And all we talk about is bad. We can easily become blinded to the good in our lives.
Recently, I touched base with someone I've only visited with a few times in the last couple of decades. At one time, we were in each other's daily lives. And, as we are wont to do, we tend to remember people as they were when we last saw them. We don't allow for the change brought about by a decade or two of time and choices.

But here's the great news—at least it was for me - In responding to her questions, I realized just how much God has done in my life in the last 20+ years! How He's caused me to grow in my relationship with Him and with others. How He is the Lifter of my head! How He has patiently - lovingly - taught me how to cast all my burden on Him because He cares for me! I love the way The Message Bible reads in Philippians 4:12-13, "Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am." And because of the opportunity to reflect, to stop and look back - that selah moment - I have been enjoying a praise party! They're the best!
I keep thinking of the verse in that great old hymn, How Great Thou Art. "And when I think that God His Son not sparing sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in... That on the Cross - my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin!"
Hallelujah! I give thanks to God with everything I've got—
Prayer:
Father,
Forgive us when we whine and complain and take our eyes off of You and all that You've done to redeem us from sin and save us from ourselves. When I think about all of that and MORE, then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee... How great Thou art! How great Thou art! Father, help us to stay focused to think on these good things, according to Your Word in Philippians 4. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

Promise for Today - Start and End
It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to the Most High. It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning, your faithfulness in the evening, accompanied by a ten-stringed instrument, a harp, and the melody of a lyre.
You thrill me, Lord, with all you have done for me! I sing for joy because of what you have done. O Lord, what great works you do!
According to the Bible Project, "The whole book of Psalms has been divided into five books or sections (Psalms 3-41; Psalms 42-72; Psalms 73-89; Psalms 90-106, and Psalms 107-145). The reason for these divisions is that each section has a final poem, which concludes with a similar line that looks like an editorial addition, “May the Lord, the God of Israel, be blessed forever. Amen and Amen." (These are found in Ps. 41:13, Ps. 72:19, Ps. 89:52, and Ps 106:48.)
You thrill me, Lord, with all you have done for me! I sing for joy because of what you have done. O Lord, what great works you do!
Psalm 92:1-5a NLT
Psalms is a fascinating collection of poems, full of praise and pain and even prophecy. And contrary to general public opinion, David did not write all of them. In fact, one-third of them are anonymous.
In Book 5, chapters 146 - 150 all start and end with "hallelujah" or "Praise the Lord" depending on which Bible translation you read. In explanation for what may seem like a difference that is actually the same, Hallelujah in the Hebrew language means Praise Yah (short for Yahweh). Going back to our text for today, it is good to proclaim God's unfailing love in the morning, and His faithfulness in the evening...
Prayer:
Father,
Thank You for Your inspiration to mankind to write with such transparency about the struggles and triumphs of human nature. Help us to grasp the wisdom that, through it all, our only hope is in You. And just like our Promise for Today, we are thrilled with all You have done for us! We sing for joy because of what You have done. O Lord, what great works You do! No matter the circumstances, Father, we want to start and end our day in praise for You. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

Promise for Today - Psalm 103 - Davidic Praise
Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!
The Lord gives righteousness and justice to all who are treated unfairly. He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel.
The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever.
The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust. Our days on earth are like grass; like wildflowers, we bloom and die. The wind blows, and we are gone - as though we had never been here. But the love of the Lord remains forever
with those who fear him. His salvation extends to the children’s children of those who are faithful to his covenant, of those who obey his commandments!
The Lord has made the heavens his throne; from there he rules over everything.
Praise the Lord, you angels, you mighty ones who carry out his plans, listening for each of his commands. Yes, praise the Lord, you armies of angels who serve him and do his will! Praise the Lord, everything he has created, everything in all his kingdom.
Let all that I am praise the Lord.

The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever.
He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.

Promise for Today - And Yet
Lord, save me from people who are evil. Protect me from those who are cruel, from those who plan to do evil and always cause trouble. Lord, you are my God. Lord, listen to my prayer. My Lord God, you are the powerful one who saves me. You protect my head in battle.
Psalm 140:1-2, 6-7 ERV
Lord, help me control what I say. Don’t let me say anything bad. Take away any desire to do evil. Keep me from joining the wicked in doing wrong.
Psalm 141:3-4 ERV
Psalm 140:1-2, 6-7 ERV
Lord, help me control what I say. Don’t let me say anything bad. Take away any desire to do evil. Keep me from joining the wicked in doing wrong.
Psalm 141:3-4 ERV
Being a follower of Christ is the greatest privilege and blessing, but it does not exclude us from trials or tribulations. That's why I love the Psalms - especially those written by David both before and after he was king. David is known as a man after God's own heart. He is one of the most "real" prophet kings in the Bible, and yet, he has some very strong opinions and emotions.
David acknowledges his feelings and the issues he wrestles with, and he is quite transparent about what he'd like to happen to those who are plucking his last nerve. And yet, in the process, he always comes back to acknowledge God. Adonai. David always recognizes who God is, no matter what. Psalm 142:5 NLT, he writes, Then I pray to you, O Lord. I say, “You are my place of refuge. You are all I really want in life."
That, too, is my prayer for all of us.
Father,
Save us from evil people. Protect us from those who are cruel, from those whose plans are evil. You are our God, protecting our heads - our thoughts, feelings and desires - when we are in battle. Make us ever mindful of the words we are about to say.Let only Your Words come out of our mouths, those words which are good for building up and not tearing down, good for speaking life and not death, to encourage and not discourage. Please put Your hand over our mouths and help us to choose and SPEAK gratitude and thanksgiving. Father, You truly are our place of refuge and all we really want in life. Holy Spirit, please continue to guide us into all Truth with spiritual understanding. For this and SO much more, we give You praise and glory and honor. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

A Doxology - Thanksgiving Devotional #8
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.
Ephesians 1:3 NLT
A doxology is defined as “an expression of praise to God, especially a short hymn sung as part of a Christian worship service.” The most commonly known is "Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow", sung to the tune of the Old Hundredth. If you don't know it, you've more than likely heard it at least once in your lifetime.
How many times does it happen when we sing a song that we have sung hundreds of times before, that we sing it without thinking about the words and the meaning behind them? In this season of Thanksgiving, let us blow off the dust and sing from our hearts an expression of true praise in worship.

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow!
Praise Him all creatures here below!
Praise Him above ye heav'nly host!
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Praise God who loves us great and small
Praise Him who hears our faintest call
The Sovereign Lamb redeemed the fall
Praise God, the Saviour, Lord of all
From all that dwell below the skies
Let faith and hope with love arise
Let beauty, truth, and good be sung
Through every land by every tongue
Thanksgiving is about doing just that - giving thanks to the One who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing and giving Him praise! Hallelujah!
Prayer:
Father,
Thank You for music. Thank You for Your anointing on it. Thank You for enabling our hearts to respond to You. Birth in us a new desire to know You more. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

Giving Thanks for the Power of Praise - Thanksgiving Devotional #2
Written by Whitney Hopler - She is the author of several books, including the nonfiction books Wake Up to Wonder and Wonder Through the Year: A Daily Devotional for Every Year, and the young adult novel Dream Factory.
How does praising God in difficult times shift your perspective?
Have you experienced a moment where praise helped you feel God’s presence with you? How did it affect you?
In what areas of your life do you feel “imprisoned” right now, and how can you begin to use praise as a way to invite God’s power into those situations?

Father,
Forgive us for the times we choose to grumble and complain in the tough times rather than praise You. Today we choose according to Your Word, to enter into Your gates with thanksgiving, and into Your courts with praise! We will be thankful unto You and bless Your Name, for You are good; Your mercy is everlasting; and Your Truth endures to all generations. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.”
“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.”
Acts 16:25-26
I was struggling to sleep because of persistent pain from an injury. No matter how hard I tried to find a comfortable position to go to sleep, I couldn’t find any way to escape the pain or relax enough to sleep. Frustrated, I glanced at a nearby clock. It was already close to midnight, and I still didn’t know how much longer it would take me to go to sleep. Rather than ruminate on my problem any longer, I got up out of bed and did something I knew would always help me somehow – I sang a worship song to God. Even though I was singing softly (to avoid waking up my husband), it didn’t take long to feel a powerful sense of peace wash over me. God was with me even in my pain. I kept singing, and by the time I was done, my pain didn’t seem as distracting as before. Finally, I was able to drift off to sleep.
There’s something powerful about praise. It lifts our perspective beyond our problems and to the all-powerful God who can help us solve them. When Paul and Silas found themselves in prison, they could have chosen to give in to despair or to question why God allowed them to endure such suffering. Instead, they lifted their voices in prayer and praise to God. Their decision to worship in the middle of suffering may seem surprising. But the miracle that happened when they did shows us that praise opens the door to God’s power.
In their darkest hour, at midnight, Paul and Silas began to sing hymns to God. The prison, which was often a place of defeat and silence, became a place of worship. As their praises rose, God’s power descended. The Bible passage tells us that suddenly there was an earthquake so violent that even the foundations of the prison were shaken. The result was that not only were Paul and Silas freed, but every prisoner in that place was unshackled. Praise brought liberation to everyone around them!
When we praise, we shift our focus from ourselves and our problems to God. Praise acknowledges God’s greatness and faithfulness, no matter what challenges we’re facing. By praising God in difficult times, we invite God into our circumstances. That is when transformation happens.
The prison couldn’t contain Paul and Silas because the power of God was greater than their chains. When we choose to praise God – despite how impossible or painful our circumstances may seem – we’re acknowledging that God’s power is greater than anything we face. We’re inviting God to step into our situation, trusting that God is more than able to deliver us.
Praise also acts as a weapon of faith in spiritual warfare. Just as it broke open the prison doors for Paul and Silas, praise has the power to break down spiritual strongholds. Evil wants to keep us imprisoned in fear, doubt, and despair. But when we lift up praise, we declare that God is in control, no matter how hopeless our situation may appear. Praise declares victory before it’s even visible. That welcomes God’s light into the darkness, dispelling it.
When we lift our voices in worship, we’re welcoming God’s power to shake the foundations of whatever holds us captive. Chains will fall, doors will open, and freedom will come when we praise God.
So, whatever you’re facing today, choose to praise. Trust that as you lift your voice to God, God will work powerfully in your life. The same power that set Paul and Silas free is available to you. Praise welcomes God’s power into your life, and nothing can stand against it.
Intersecting Faith & Life: As you consider the power of praise, reflect on these questions:

Appointed, Anointed, Not Elected
Come, everyone! Clap your hands!
Shout to God with joyful praise!
For the Lord Most High is awesome.
He is the great King of all the earth.
He subdues the nations before us, putting our enemies beneath our feet. He chose the Promised Land as our inheritance, the proud possession of Jacob’s descendants, whom he loves. Interlude
God has ascended with a mighty shout.
The Lord has ascended with trumpets blaring.
Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises! For God is the King over all the earth.
Praise him with a psalm.
God reigns above the nations, sitting on his holy throne.
The rulers of the world have gathered together with the people of the God of Abraham. For all the kings of the earth belong to God.
He is highly honored everywhere.

Prayer, Praise and Pursuit
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
James 1:5-8 NKJV
Have you paid attention lately to the tenor of your prayers? No, not tenor like Domingo or Pavarotti, but tenor meaning the settled or prevailing or habitual course of a person's life. We're talking about intentional. Settled. Prevailing. Habitual. The course of a person's prayer life. Planned.

I believe in spontaneous prayer and/or praise, but I also think there needs to be intentional prayer and/or praise. We can NOT count the worried thoughts thrown somewhere in the general direction of the sky as prayer any more than we can throw our boots in the oven and bake them and expect a biscuit when the timer goes off.
If I ask God for wisdom to live my life, and I am not intentional about believing He will give it to me according to His Word (the plan), then I would be drifting like a wave of the sea. And just like it is dangerous to be adrift on the sea, powerless, without an anchor, it is infinitely more dangerous to be adrift in the sea of life.
Merriam-Webster defines adrift as:
How do we build relationship with Christ? We talk to Him. We get to know Him. We find out about things He's done. Things He's going to do. (Prayer, praise and pursuit).
So do we just want to drift along or do we want to plan our course?
Prayer:
Father,
According to Your Word in Psalm 141:4, Don’t let us drift toward evil or take part in acts of wickedness. Don’t let us share in the delicacies of those who do wrong. We need Your wisdom to plot our course in life and to follow Your plan. Let everything we do and everything we say be intentionally faithful to You. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

Merriam-Webster defines adrift as:
1 : without motive power and without anchor or mooringAnd while not being restrained may seem like a good thing to lots of people, no support is a bad thing ("There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end of that way is death... Proverbs 14:12"). Without God's motivating power, without the Cross as our anchor or mooring, without the ties, guidance or security of our relationship with Christ, His Word, His people, we are unstable in all our ways.
<a boat adrift on the sea>
2 : without ties, guidance, or security
<people morally adrift>
3 : free from restraint or support

But the love of the Lord remains forever with those who fear him.
(Let all that we are praise the Lord.)
Psalm 103:1-2 NLT
He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!
The Lord gives righteousness and justice to all who are treated unfairly.
He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel. The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever. He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.

On the Way Out
Let them all praise the name of the Lord. For his name is very great; his glory towers over the earth and heaven!
Psalm 148:13 NLT
Another year drawing to a close - we're that much closer to Heaven! What better way to bid farewell to the old year and set the tone to usher in the new but with praise? Come! Let's praise the God Who got us through everything in the last year and still has great plans and purpose for our lives!
Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord from the heavens! Praise him from the skies! Praise him, all his angels! Praise him, all the armies of heaven! Praise him, sun and moon! Praise him, all you twinkling stars! Praise him, skies above! Praise him, vapors high above the clouds! Let every created thing give praise to the Lord, for he issued his command, and they came into being. He set them in place forever and ever. His decree will never be revoked.
Praise the Lord from the earth, you creatures of the ocean depths, fire and hail, snow and clouds, wind and weather that obey him, mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars, wild animals and all livestock, small scurrying animals and birds, kings of the earth and all people, rulers and judges of the earth, young men and young women, old men and children.
Let them all praise the name of the Lord. For his name is very great; his glory towers over the earth and heaven! He has made his people strong, honoring his faithful ones—the people of Israel who are close to him.
Praise the Lord! Psalm 148:1-14 NLT

Prayer:
Father,
We give You praise for all You have done, for all You are doing, and for all You have planned to do for us in this year and in time going forward. When we take the time to reflect on all Your goodness, we are overwhelmed but we will boisterously and joyfully offer our praise and thanksgiving. We will not be silent nor let the rocks cry out in our place! Help us to be a living testimony of Your goodness and grace. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

A Portion of Praise
Praise the Lord! I will thank the Lord with all my heart as I meet with his godly people.
How amazing are the deeds of the Lord! All who delight in him should ponder them. Everything he does reveals his glory and majesty. His righteousness never fails.
He causes us to remember his wonderful works.
How gracious and merciful is our Lord!
He gives food to those who fear him; he always remembers his covenant. He has shown his great power to his people by giving them the lands of other nations.
He has paid a full ransom for his people. He has guaranteed his covenant with them forever.
What a holy, awe-inspiring name he has!
Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom.
All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom.
Praise him forever!
Psalm 111:1-10 NLT

From Dusk to Dawn
Hallelujah! You who serve God, praise God! Just to speak his name is praise!
Psalm 113:1 The Message
He picks up the poor from out of the dirt, rescues the forgotten who’ve been thrown out with the trash, seats them among the honored guests, a place of honor among the brightest and best. He gives childless couples a family, gives them joy as the parents of children. Hallelujah!
Psalm 113:1 The Message
Just to remember God is a blessing - now and tomorrow and always. From east to west, from dawn to dusk, keep lifting all your praises to God!
God is higher than anything and anyone, outshining everything you can see in the skies. Who can compare with God, our God, so majestically enthroned, surveying his magnificent
heavens and earth?

From Now Until Easter - Praise!
From Ash Wednesday until Easter, I will post from Lent and Easter devotionals offered online. Today's post features excerpts written by Kathy Jo Blaske serving as a long-term care chaplain at the Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff, New Jersey.
**********************************************
1 Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty firmament!
2 Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his surpassing greatness!
3 Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp!
4 Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe!
5 Praise him with clanging cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
6 Let everything that breathes praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!

Psalm 150:1-6
Praise the LORD! Where?
“ … in his sanctuary.” Not in a bounded place, but wherever we experience God in life—as we gaze from our own yards into the heavens; as we walk barefoot along the shore of a lake; as we listen to a choir from pews or concert hall seats; as we pray in the solitude of our homes or sing in a congregation of worshipers. We praise God whenever and wherever our hearts are inspired to do so.
Praise the LORD! Why?
“ … for his mighty deeds, according to his surpassing greatness!” Praise the Lord for the rain, which nourishes the earth; for the wonder of a sunrise; for the cry of a newborn child; for the inquisitiveness of young children; for healing bodies through the medical community; for comforting hearts as the Lord works through ministers, priests, counselors, and friends.
Praise the LORD! How?
With a diversity of instruments! I’ve employed most of them: a trumpet graced my ordination service. And though 40 years have passed since then, I can still hear the melody of the oboe during productions of “Amahl and the Night Visitors” by the first church I served. Now, at the assisted living residences where I conduct worship, we are blessed regularly with harp and piano accompaniment, and frequently we welcome a cellist when he is home from college. I distribute tambourines on occasion to enliven our singing. Liturgical dancers have engaged worshipers. And, I, myself, have clashed cymbals during the singing of “Jesus Christ Is Risen Today!” (Praising God with a lute,[verse 3] however, remains on my bucket list!)
Praise the LORD! Who?
Everything that breathes is to praise God! Breath is a sign of spirit, of life. Let’s all take note of the goodness of God in our lives today. Let’s be instruments, ourselves, and praise the LORD!

From Now Until Easter - The Pursuit of Peace
From Ash Wednesday until Easter, I will post from Lent and Easter devotionals offered online. Tonight's post features excerpts written by Dan DeVries, religious services coordinator at Hope Haven, Inc.
************************************************
Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
Psalm 34:12-14 (NIV)
The psalmist’s paraphrased response is, “What we speak is really important.” We choose every day between having our tongues speak evil or praise. And if we choose to keep evil and lies from crossing our lips, we also need to ask forgiveness for the times we have allowed evil and lies to escape. In asking for forgiveness, whom do I also need to forgive? How relentless am I in pursuing forgiveness and the forgiving of others?
Pursuit is an active word that suggests vigor. Pursuing peace found only in God delivers us from all our fears. And if our daily newsfeed is to be believed, we have much to fear. Fear is the most natural response to the unknown, and it blinds us to the freedom that we have to pursue peace and seek God. As the old hymn assures us, “’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear and grace my fears relieved.”
According to this psalm, orienting our life in God’s ways—fasting from evil speech and lying lips and turning from evil—promises an abundant and joyful life. It comes to fruition through peace-making—pursuing peace.
Good days. How does one whose very life has been saved by God respond? Verse 1 of this psalm answers, “I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.”

Extol the Lord God
I love the Lord because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!
Psalm 116:1-2 NLT
Death wrapped its ropes around me; the terrors of the grave overtook me.
I saw only trouble and sorrow.
Then I called on the name of the Lord: “Please, Lord, save me!”
How kind the Lord is! How good he is! So merciful, this God of ours!
The Lord protects those of childlike faith; I was facing death, and he saved me.
Let my soul be at rest again, for the Lord has been good to me.
He has saved me from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling.
And so I walk in the Lord’s presence as I live here on earth!
I believed in you, so I said, “I am deeply troubled, Lord.”
In my anxiety I cried out to you, “These people are all liars!”
What can I offer the Lord for all he has done for me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation and praise the Lord’s name for saving me.
I will keep my promises to the Lord in the presence of all his people.
Prayer:
And so I walk in the Lord’s presence as I live here on earth!
I believed in you, so I said, “I am deeply troubled, Lord.”
In my anxiety I cried out to you, “These people are all liars!”
What can I offer the Lord for all he has done for me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation and praise the Lord’s name for saving me.
I will keep my promises to the Lord in the presence of all his people.
Prayer:
Father,
You care deeply when Your loved ones die. O Lord, we are Your servants; yes, we are Your servants, born into Your household; You have freed us from our chains. We will offer You a sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the Lord. We will fulfill our vows to You, Lord, in the presence of all Your people - in the house of the Lord, in the heart of Jerusalem. Praise the Lord and Amen!

When I Think
Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.
Philippians 4:8 The Message
Prayer:
Philippians 4:8 The Message
I've heard a lot of stories from people regarding their personal experiences and thoughts on last week's Category 3 tornado that blew through our town and several surrounding cities. As a region, we are blessed beyond measure that NO one died during the blustering rampage. And we are so grateful to God for His mercy.
Most of the stories started with, "When I think what could have happened..." and then the stress and/or the tears followed... Why is it - as humans - we are so ready to focus on the evil that could have happened and get upset about it rather than rejoice and give thanks that it didn't happen? Why is it we have to spend quite a bit of time talking people out of a state of upset and into a place of thanksgiving and praise over things that "almost" or "could have" happened, but didn't? When you think, choose wisely...
Father,
Your Word tells us to guard our hearts above all else, for it determines the course of our lives. Holy Spirit, convict our hearts when we choose to think about the what-ifs rather than what God did. Turn us from the path that leads us falsely to fear. When we think, Father, remind us to fill our minds and meditate on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. And to ALWAYS give You all praise in all things. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen
