Becoming Better

Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming. You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world. But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.
Colossians 3:5c-10 NLT

Thirty days to a new you! It sounds good, doesn’t it? The world touts all kinds of epithets for being a better you, becoming a better you, to be the best you that you can be!

The concept appears to align with Scriptural references of becoming a new creation, and some have even alluded to it, and lots of Christians get pulled into that erroneous mindset. You see, the actual Scripture reference is In Christ, we are new creations, not in ourselves. The world leaves Christ out of it and yet, He is the only way.

According to our Promise for today, Put on your new nature, and be renewed...
When? ...as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.

As Alan Neel proclaimed a few years back, “He's not changing me to be a better ME – He is changing me to become more like Him.” Let it be so, Lord!

Prayer:

Father,
Change our hearts, O God, may we be more like You. Develop Christ-like character within us that will shine like a beacon from within to a lost and dying world. When they look at us, let them see You in us and be drawn to Your saving Grace. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen
