I have been surprised by the number of organizations that require proof of your parentage in order to become a member. And for some societies, you cannot be a member if you only have a singular ancestor. According to the Hereditary Society Listings website, "In exceptional cases, allowances are made for singular ancestor societies on the complete society listings if it is determined that the ancestor is of sufficient, historical significance (ie; Charlemagne, Thomas Jefferson...)"
The lineage report can read like Matthew, chapter 1. Abraham the father of Isaac; Isaac the father of Jacob; Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers... Just how significant do you have to be?
What about children who have no idea what their lineage is? They have one - they just don't know which family tree holds their history. If you're adopted, your "tree" changes. What about fostering? Foster homes are temporary shelter for children whose birth parents are not able to care or provide for them. Those children have been plucked or thrown out of their family tree.
There's been an entire market created for tracing your heritage. And it's largely dependent on whether or not you know who your father is, and who his father was, and his father before him. In discovering all that, you might find out that you are an heir to more than you can imagine, but you have to prove it.
The Truth is, if we've accepted Jesus as our Saviour, we are already heir to more than we can imagine! How do we prove that God is our Father? Romans 8:14-16 tells us, For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God...
Be led by His Spirit. Love your enemies. Pray for those who persecute you. In so doing, you will prove who is your Daddy.

Father,
We can say all the right words and pretend that we don't care who claims us and who doesn't, but You know the Truth. Before the foundation of the world, You chose US to be Yours. Help us to embrace and definitively understand the reality of You as our Father. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen
