Psalm 34:18 NLT
I'm horrified at the carnage that took place in Las Vegas. It's devastating to say the least. So much heartache for the families and friends of those who died, the fear of the hundreds who were shot, the unanswered and unanswerable questions... I have no words of my own to offer. I only have what I always know to be true, no matter the tragedy, no matter the circumstance, no matter the need. God's Word. It's what I offer tonight.
Romans 12:21 - Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Matthew 5:4 - Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
John 14:27- Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
Matthew 11:28-39 - Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Psalm 145:18-19 - The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them.
Isaiah 40:31 - But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength...
2 Corinthians 1:4 - Who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
John 16:33b - In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
John 10:10 - The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
Psalm 143:3-6 - For the enemy has pursued my soul; he has crushed my life to the ground; he has made me sit in darkness like those long dead. Therefore my spirit faints within me; my heart within me is appalled. I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that you have done; I ponder the work of your hands. I stretch out my hands to you; my soul thirsts for you like a parched land. Selah
Psalm 71:5 - For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth.
Psalm 23:1-4 - A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
John 3:16-17 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Psalm 46:1 - God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Revelation 21:4 - He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.
Prayer:
Father,
According to Your Word in Romans 12:12, we shall Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. It is so hard, Father! Help us to remain steadfast in Your Word; comforted by Your peace, strengthened by Your Word. Help us to be Your light in a darkened world. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen
