At about the same time, the disciples came to Jesus asking, "Who gets the highest rank in God's kingdom?"
For an answer Jesus called over a child, whom he stood in the middle of the room, and said, "I'm telling you, once and for all, that unless you return to square one and start over like children, you're not even going to get a look at the kingdom, let alone get in. Whoever becomes simple and elemental again, like this child, will rank high in God's kingdom.
Matthew 18:1-4 The Message
I remember when my firstborn was a toddler. I got such a kick out of seeing the world anew through her eyes. It was like discovering it again for the first time. All the excitement and wonder! I think it's why I like kids so much - they truly know how to marvel about things in life! I think we tend to lose that as we grow older and become "responsible" adults. We don't truly recognize marvelous once we lose the newness of life in the name of growing up. We forget how to marvel...
The same can happen in our Christian walk. And if we do forget, then how do we sing at the top of our lungs, "Oh, how marvelous! How wonderful and my song shall ever be! How marvelous! How wonderful is thy Savior's love for me!"
I like being around baby Christians for just that reason. How exciting it is to see them! Hungry-for-the-Truth- marveling-at-His-Grace-in-awe- and-wonder-of-God's-mercy-and- grace-and-goodness-and- faithfulness brand new creations in Christ! It's like discovering it again for the first time. All the excitement and wonder... How marvelous! Do you remember how?
Prayer:
Father,
Open our hearts and minds to receive Your glory and Your grace. Cause us to marvel at the works of Your hands! In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen
