Just for Today

That he [God] would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
Luke 1:74-75 KJV

Being one who is fascinated with words, I find the KJV (King James Version) to have an interesting turn of phrase. Most of the other translations/versions of the Bible refer to the phrase "all the days" as "all our life." And while all of our days do comprise all of our life, it's interesting - perhaps even overwhelming -  to think of our lives in terms of one day at a time.

God instructs us to take one day at a time (Matthew 6:34). He basically told us there is enough to think about or get accomplished in one day - don't think about the rest of it. Remember, His mercies are the reason we are not consumed - they are new every morning... every day...all the days of our life (Lamentations 3:22-23).

If we knew certain situations were going to last years, we couldn't face it. We couldn't do it. But one day at a time? By God's grace and with His provision, we can do that. In good times or bad times, let's take it one day at a time. Enjoy it or survive it, but do it just for today.

Prayer:

Father,
Thank You for giving us a timeframe we can live in. According to Your Word in Psalm 90:12, teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts to wisdom. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen
